Metaponto
Land of heroes, divinities, conquerors, poets, philosophers and artists, for centuries it has given refreshment and hospitality to all those who come across it. Metaponto literally means “between two rivers”, because it rises between the Bradano and the Basento.
Nature, sea and archeology have always been what make this area an evocative place and one of the most popular destinations in Basilicata. Here the winding streets give way to nature, splendid and uncontaminated, which sees enchanting pine forests ending in brilliant golden beaches bathed by the crystalline sea.
Those who visit Metaponto cannot help but admire the imposing Palatine Tables – twelve columns in Doric style, remains of the Temple of Hera – which at sunset bring out the immutable charm of Greek art and the National Archaeological Museum of Metaponto.
Policoro
Policoro, the ancient Heraclea, is the perfect destination for a relaxing holiday: sea, nature and history combine to create a unique landscape.
The crystal clear sea of medium depth, the beaches made of sand and small pebbles, are chosen every year by the Caretta Caretta turtles. In fact, it often happens to witness the hatching of the eggs and to see groups of dolphins swimming offshore. The beauty of unspoiled nature, the scent of fresh strawberries, local products, traditions, every single element is ready to be experienced in its genuineness.
Finally, a visit to the National Archaeological Museum of Siritide, the Sanctuary of Demeter and the Temple of Dionysus, dating back to the 7th century BC. C. will be the perfect memory of a journey to the constant rediscovery of the past.
Marina di Pisticci
A few kilometers from the Archaeological Area of Metaponto and less than thirty minutes from Matera lies Marina di Pisticci, a popular destination for lovers of the sea and those who want to spend a holiday of pure relaxation.
Golden beaches, shallow waters, a true natural paradise considered one of the treasures of Basilicata. Around the territory of Pisticci, there are the Calanchi Lucani, clayey furrows which, creating a fascinating natural scenery, for their uniqueness and beauty, have inspired over time the works of painters, artists and writers.
About 25 km away is the Borgo di Pisticci, a very characteristic village where the historic buildings, squares, churches, defensive towers and the row of white houses with red roofs make this town a small treasure chest to admire and protect.
Matera
Matera is one of the oldest cities in the world, the keeper of stories and memories that have been handed down for centuries. The city of the Sassi, a place where landscapes, cultures, traditions and civilizations have alternated and united over time – nominated by Unesco, in 1993, a World Heritage Site and in 2014 European Capital of Culture for 2019 – over the years it has become a source of pride and a symbol of a land that has been able to redeem itself by showing everyone its charm and its true nature.
The rock churches, the breathtaking scenery of the Belvedere, the sanctuaries, the flora and fauna of the Murgia Materana Park, the beauty of the monuments, the typical cuisine, the crusco pepper, the local crafts and many other peculiarities of the place will make you fall in love of this place suspended in time.
